The arabica variety nowadays is mainly produced in Central and South America and are known for the strong aromatic flavor that gives the coffee. The robusta variety is more resistant to plant diseases than arabica, due to almost double the quantity of caffeine containing (caffeine can paralyze and kill some of the insects that threaten the Coffea). It is a "robust" species with high production per plant. Grows at lower elevations and have a more pungent, harsh taste. The robusta variety, which is the remaining 22% of world production, has the ability to adapt to warm-humid climates, in which arabica does not flourish.
