Μία ακόμη προσέγγιση της μεθοδολογίας DFSS είναι η DIDOV (Define,Identify, Design, Optimize, Verify) (Treichler, 2002). Η μεθοδολογία αυτή είναι μια ξεχωριστή και αναδυόμενη πειθαρχία σχετική με τις ποιοτικές διαδικασίες της πολιτικής ποιότητας 6σ. Η μεθοδολογία αυτή είναι χρήσιμη όταν αναπτύσσεται ένα νέο προϊόν ή μία νέα διαδικασία ή όταν γίνεται έρευνα και ανάπτυξη έχοντας σαν προϋπόθεση το επίπεδο έξι σίγμα ή στον επανασχεδιασμό μιας ήδη υπάρχουσας διαδικασίας/προϊόντος. Στόχος της μεθοδολογίας αυτής είναι η επίτευξη μιας προτιθέμενης απόδοσης, η αξιοπιστία και τα κόστη, τα οποία είναι τυπικά χαρακτηριστικά μιας πρωτοβουλίας έξι σίγμα.
