Οι έννοιες αυτές έχουν συζητηθεί ήδη τόσο πολύ κυρίως γιατί είναι πολύπλοκες. Ο ορισμός του καλαίσθητου το παρουσιάζει ως αξία γι' αυτό και δεν μετριέται αλλά εκτιμάται. Ψάχνουμε δηλαδή να εντοπίσουμε τις ποιότητές του και να τις εκτιμήσουμε ως τέτοιες. Είναι παρακινδυνευμένο να προσδώσουμε καθολικότητα στην έννοια αυτή. Το κάλος είναι μια εκτίμηση που επηρεάζεται από τις ευαισθησίες, την παιδεία και τον συναισθηματικό κόσμο του καθένα από εμάς.
