Applying Six Sigma includes a methodology to improve and solveproblems. There are stages that are organized in a way that is reasonable andsystematic. In each of these stages, a set of tools andtechniques (Goffnet, 2004; Maleyeff and Krayenvenger, 2004). One of theseis DMAIC methodologies. The DMAIC is a structured methodology thatused by companies who implement quality policy6σ (Pande et al., 2000; Klefsjo¨ et al., 2001; Banuelas and Antony, 2003; Gupta, 2005;Brady and Allen, 2006). This is due to the simplicity and similarity to thePDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act) or circle of Deming, who widely adoptedfor continuous improvement. Another important aspect in using DMAIC is the focuscustomer satisfaction (CTC – critical factors quality), continuousreduction of variability, adaptation of product designand procedures and the effective implementation of administrative proceduresand services (Lynch et al., 2003).The DMAIC phases and the basic tools used in each phaselisted below (Linderman et al., 2003):(1) D = Define "designation" Pareto analysis, map program(2) m = Measure "measurement": descriptive statistics, capacity analysisprocess, six sigma metrics, MSA, FMEA, QFD(3) A = Analyze "analysis": Detailed process map, diagramherringbone, examination of cases, regression and correlation analysis(4) I = Improve ' improvement ': Experimentation, new process(5) C = Control "control": statistical control, process control charts, control plans, reliability tests
