Πῆγα, ξέροντας ὅτι θά γυρίσω ἐντυπωσιασμένος. Γύρισα τρομαγμένος. Ἡ πρόοδος τῆς Κίνας μοῦ ἦταν γνωστή, καί σέ παλαιές συγγραφές μου («Παγκοσμιοποίηση: Γιά ἕνα παγκόσμιο σύστημα ὁλοκληρωτικῆς ἐξουσίας», «Γιά μιά δημοκρατία Εὐθύνης» κ.ἄ.) εἶχα ὑποστηρίξει ὅτι νικητής στό παιχνίδι τῆς παγκοσμιοποίησης δέν θά εἶναι οἱ ΗΠΑ οὔτε ἡ συγκολημμένη μέ «οὔχου» Ε.Ε., ἀλλά ἡ Κίνα. Ὅταν μάλιστα κάποτε ἡ φερόμενη σήμερα σάν ὑπουργός μή ἐθνικῆς παιδείας (ἡ κατάργηση τοῦ ὅρου ἐθνική εἶναι δική της πρωτοτυπία) εἶχε ὑποστήριξει τήν ἀναχρονιστική ἄποψη περί Ἀγγλικῆς σάν δεύτερης γλώσσας στά σχολεῖα μας γιά νά ἔχουμε ὁρίζοντα μέλλοντος, μέ σκεπτικό ὕφος τῆς ὑπέδειξα πώς ὅποιος θέλει μέλλον μαθαίνει κινεζικά καί ὄχι τά «παλαιομοδίτικα» Ἀγγλικά!

Καί ὑπέδειξα τότε τήν ἀνάγκη δημιουργίας δύο ἱδρυμάτων ταχείας ἐκμαθήσεως τῆς Κινεζικῆς γιά νά ὑποδεχθοῦμε αὐτό τό μέλλον. Ἀλλά ἐμεῖς σάν τίς Μωρές Παρθένες τῆς Παραβολῆς μείναμε ἄ-λαδοι καί ἄλαλοι μπρός τήν ἐπέλαση τῆς κινεζικῆς οἰκονομίας, πού θά συνοδευθεῖ σύντομα καί ἀπό τήν ἐπέκταση τῆς Κινεζικῆς γλώσσας, τήν ὁποία οἱ Κινέζοι ἔχουν «περί πολλοῦ».
