Κάθε διάδικος οφείλει να επιδείξει τα έγγραφα που χρησιμοποίησε ή επικαλέστηκε στη δίκη.
Κάθε διάδικος ή τρίτος έχει υποχρέωση να επιδείξει τα έγγραφα που κατέχει και που μπορούν να χρησιμεύσουν για απόδειξη, εκτός αν συντρέχει σπουδαίος λόγος που δικαιολογεί τη μη επίδειξή τους. Σπουδαίος λόγος συντρέχει ιδίως στις περιπτώσεις που επιτρέπεται να αρνηθεί κανείς να μαρτυρήσει.
