Η πρόθεση του Κριστόφ Κισλόφσκι ήταν να δημιουργήσει μια ταινία για την ελευθερία, την ισότητα και την ελευθερία και όχι για την εθνική υπόσταση αυτών ούτε για το πως τις συναντάμε γύρω μας, αλλά κυρίως για το πως αντιμετωπίζουμε τις τρεις αυτές αξίες απ`όσα κουβαλάμε μέσα μας. Όλοι κάτι κουβαλάμε μέσα μας, όλοι σε κάποια δεσμά είμαστε μπλεγμένοι κι όλα αυτά θα βγάλει στο φως ο σκηνοθέτης με τον δικό του τρόπο, έναν τρόπο που στον καθένα θα λειτουργήσει με διαφορετική μορφή. Είτε όμως εκληφθεί ως μια κατάσταση μακρινή που δεν έχει βιωθεί , είτε ως έναν καθρέφτης της πραγματικότητας, ένα είναι το σίγουρο ότι καταφέρνει να επηρεάσει όχι επιφανειακά αλλά στοιχειώνοντας κάπου πολύ βαθιά, κάπου που μονάχα η τέχνη ξέρει να φτάνει.
