Για την απόληψη θαλάσσιων ιζημάτων της τάξης του 1.200.000 m3 που θα χρησιμοποιηθούν ως υλικά επίχωσης στο έργο επέκτασης του 6ου Προβλήτα, αφού λήφθηκαν υπόψη αποτελέσματα εργαστηριακών αναλύσεων δειγμάτων ιζημάτων καθώς και παρατηρήσεις πεδίου που αφορούν στα οικολογικά χαρακτηριστικά των περιοχών, επελέγη περιοχή στο ανατολικό τμήμα του Θερμαϊκού Κόλπου 25km νότια από τον 6ο Προβλήτα του Λιμένα Θεσσαλονίκης.
