Although we do not realize as an instrument, however, the largest organ of the human body is our skin. It weighs an average of 3.6 pounds and occupies an area of about 2 square meters. The skin is comprised of a complex system of cell layers, nerves and glands has not only to protect us but to our connects with the environment around us. The skin functions as a waterproof, insulating shield that protects the body from extreme outdoor temperatures, solar radiation and chemical attack. Secrete antibacterial substances that protect against infections while producing Vitamin D that is essential for calcium metabolism in healthy bone. The skin is a sensor that is traversed by ribs in order to keep the brain in contact with the outside world. At the same time the skin allows free movement in our body. The skin consists of three layers. The outside is called the epidermis and consists mainly of cells called keratinocytes, and take their name from the protein keratin (a key structural component of hair and nails). The epidermis harbors a pulling type cells which an alarm signal to the immune system of the body against viruses and other pathogens. The next layer of the skin is called the dermis or skin in particular. The collagen and elastin fibers that has the dermis are responsible for the strength and elasticity of the skin. The blood vessels that leak dermis help regulate body temperature, increasing blood flow to allow the export of heat in hot weather and reducing the flow when it's cold. A network of nerve fibers, and receivers receive the stimuli temperature, pain and touch and which transmit to the brain.
